Synoptic Sunsets of Amboseli

A sneak into Africa. It reminds me the old golden times when herding was a norm for any boy. A prediction of time to get the herd back home, was when the sun tires up and change its colour to orange, burning all the skies in the western horizon with splendour. The cows lazily walk in a single file, shaking their bells in the valleys sending a homecoming message to their long day waiting calves. That was then, sun just meaning time!

My recent travel to Amboseli National Park (The Kilimanjaro’s Royal Court) gave me a totally thrilling perception of a sunset. I presume it is one of the few if not the only place that has the best sunsets ever. This was a one perfect made it possible at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge.

The Lodge offers the best Sun downers. Amboseli is that place where ever best sunrises and sunsets have been captured. The journey begins from the Lodge lazily driving through the meandering game viewing roads. On a clear sky, Ice Capped Mount Kilimanjaro straddles the boundary to the right!….Through the swamps the adventure gains momentum. The melting snow of the mountain seeps through the porous volcanic rocks, emanating in different locations in the park forming gigantic ecologically sensitive wetlands. Swamps in Amboseli are the ecosystem’s lungs and heart. It is a magnet that pulls every species in be it floral or faunal. Birds, insects, plants and even huge mammal population gathers here for the golden resource, water.

Past the swamp, is the base of the Observation Hill. Here, guests walk from the base hugging the hill from the waist through to the shoulders up to the head. The well encrypted conservation history of Amboseli done by IFAW and KWS gives guests informative insights as the hike progresses.
Waahhh…..its up there at the apex of the hill where everything brews!!!…The synoptic 360degrees views of the whole conservation area. It is panoramic, breathtaking, jawbreaking….name them. It is here that one appreciates the lush swamps teeming with life. Hippos and Elephants fully tuck themselves inside. Pelicans, Cormorants, Swamphens and other birds fly over and over again. A true premium area!
